(NYSE: IT and ITB) Web Site-ings feature at www.gartner.com this week highlights http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/ for its use of the Internet to create a widespread, voluntary distributed computing environment; www.redenvelope.com for its segment-specific navigation; and www.floss.com for its creative use of e-mail alert services to drive demand in brick-and-mortar distribution channels. Web Site-ings is a weekly feature that highlights online best practices. The feature can be found at www.gartner.com/ebusiness/website-ings. Web Site-ings is designed to deliver practical advice to technology, business, and new media executives charged with their Web sites’ effectiveness. Sites are evaluated using Gartner’s Web Evaluation Tool. Site visitors are invited to download Gartner’s Web Evaluation Tool at no charge to evaluate their own Web sites’ best practices.

The proprietary Web Evaluation Tool represents a detailed methodology to assess and weigh the many contributing features of good Web sites. Specifically, the tool articulates value-generating elements in site design, site functionality, and creating customer value, and offers industry-specific criteria for more than 20 industries.
