July 2, 1999 – Life’s certainty sure to surface on the Net

By MICHAEL WATT
…Recently, I came across a Web site address, floss.com, and I felt compelled to visit the site simply because the name intrigued me. Don’t ask me why because I do not know — although a recent session at the dentist may have had something to do with it. But don’t be surprised if thousands of consultants start making millions of dollars explaining precisely why I did to hundreds of companies.
Anyway, floss.com is the brainchild of Dr. Peter Vastardis, a Garden City-based dentist who wanted to create a site that brought all aspects of oral health together on one site, and who did so through the talents of Christine Mamos of graphically.com. The site covers issues ranging from dental headlines in the news to how to test yourself for bad breath. It also includes a site search engine and an opportunity to ask Dr. Vastardis or any of his six “site partners” a dental question.
This site, launched in February, is certainly a novel approach to getting the word about taking care of your teeth. Mamos reports that they have received a great deal of Internet traffic as well as dozens of new patients. As comprehensive as the site is right now, the parties involved are contemplating possible commercial uses for it down the road.
