TALENT POOL
Like five of his former colleagues, Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) exec Dennis Cunningham has ditched the database giant. Mr. Cunningham headed for the front office, so to speak: he's now senior VP of strategic alliances for front-office software developer Clarify (Nasdaq: CLFY). Guess those alliances probably won't include Oracle. ... Twenty-year-old Oracle isn't the only old-school corporation shedding execs: Federal Express (NYSE: FDX), Ameritech (NYSE: AIT), and Hertz (NYSE: HRZ) all announced this week that their CEOs would step down. But these guys aren't heading for the greener pastures of Net startups -- they're heading for the rolling greens of golf courses and other pleasures of retirement. Hertz's Frank Olson and Ameritech's Richard Notebaert will pack it in at the end of December, while Fedex's Theodore Weise will stick it out until the end of January 2000. ... Online real estate company eHome hasn't even launched its site yet, but we're expecting some fun ads and slick retail technology. New VP of marketing Tina Flammer was a force behind Sesame Street and Disney (NYSE: DIS) stores before her most recent position at duty-free retailer DFS. And eHome's new CTO, Patrick Husting, is fresh from development of e-commerce at Nordstrom (NYSE: JWN), the upscale department store that just teamed up with Benchmark Capital on an upcoming online shoe spree. ... Spent too much time munching Doritos and chocolate in front of the computer? Consumer dentistry site Floss.com won't take care of the brushing and flossing, but it added expertise in laser dentistry and halitosis (a.k.a. bad breath) to its team this week. Dr. Kenneth Hollins, laser dentistry specialist, and Carol Meyer, founder and president of Personal Breath Consultants, will dole out advice to site visitors (such as, Try a mint?).
